Late? Take off your watch, you’ll be late anyway!

Nobody is really immune against coming too late to a date or appointment – at least occasionally.
This article is not about time management and strategies for precautions, but rather some remedy for the inevitable.

But seriously, sometimes it is really not your fault when you are running late: it might be just bad luck in road traffic or another, maybe worse scenario. Anyways, it doesn’t matter, late is late; sometimes you can afford it and often you cannot.

Usually, at least from my personal experience, being late can cause huge stress to mind and body, especially if it is an important appointment. So what can you do about it?

I will tell you what I do: After I took the devastating look at my watch and realized that I’d better ID-10095706have to hurry, I’d just take off my watch and put it into my pocket and get going. Why? Because I know that I will be late anyways. It’s just such a nasty habit to check the watch constantly every few seconds while running to the date – for nothing. Glaring at your watch every few seconds won’t make you faster, all it does is reminding you that you are late, too late – something you know anyways. This is a horribly stressful situation, which is further amplified with each time you are checking your watch. I would recommend you to introspect yourself the next time when you are running late. How often to you glare at your watch? Are you able to resist checking the time more then once on your route? I bet you cannot! Try to put your watch away next time and ignore all clocks you might encounter on your way, and I’ll promise you that you feel much more relaxed, although it won’t prevent you from being late anyway ;) .

  1. I must that it’s totally true what you are saying, it’s a bad habit that we do when running late, and as you said it will increase you stress each time you look at it. Good point you are proposing here, will try it next time I am late ;) but unfortunately everything nowadays is displaying time, my phone and my car dashboard for example.
